Envisioning a New Governance Architecture for a Global Europe

EU external action warrants a strong, unified voice. The ENGAGE project, which brings together 13 academic institutions and think tanks from across Europe, examines how the EU can effectively and sustainably meet strategic challenges by harnessing all of its tools to become a more assertive global actor.

Our Research Objectives

 

Conceptual Research

Define the challenges of global governance and international relations, as well as the acceptability of advancing EU external action among EU citizens and Member States’ expert communities.

Strategic
Analysis

Map and assess the EU’s capabilities, governance structures and strategic objectives in the realms of CSDP, CFSP, external action and ‘external action plus’.

Actionable Policy Advice

Provide concrete policy advice on how the EU should engage strategic partners and neighborhoods, and play a role in conflict resolution, prevention and mediation.

These measures aim to enhance the EU's role in conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution, while also promoting gender mainstreaming, economic development and environmental protection.
